South of Market
About Neighborhood
Anchored by Market Street, Mid-Market has come into its own in the last decade when Twitter took over the stunning San Francisco Furniture Mart on Market Street. Known as a neighborhood where majestic history meets modern technology, the corridor is now home to Dolby Labs and Uber. An emerging district, Mid-Market is peppered with hip eateries, bars, boutiques, and nightlife. Foodies revel in The Hall, an elevated food court, and fresh produce and groceries at The Market on Market, based on the ground level of Twitter.
Home to some of the best live music and theater venues in the City such as The Orpheum and The Warfield, the neighborhood is chock full of interesting offerings if you are looking for farm-to-table eats and quality craft cocktails at farmer brown. Mid-Market is a cool place to work and play, with bustling streets and easy access to Civic Center BART and the vintage Street cars on Muni’s F Line.
Art, Commerce Sport and revelries all converge in SOMA, a vast district South of Market Street. Spanning from the Embarcadero to Van Ness Street, SOMA is known for being bike-friendly, start-up rich and sunny, mild weather. Brimming with Modern Art, SOMA is home to the San Francisco MoMA and Yerba Buena Gardens – providing public art and a gorgeous park often with summertime entertainment. The thriving district is home to spacious lofts, funky apartment buildings, and a thriving nightlife. From funk lofts to ancient Victorians, SOMA is where locals love to play. At&T Park, home to the World Champion San Francisco Giants baseball club is a jewel on the Bay and ushered in a revival of SOMA, China Basin, and Mission Bay. For commuters, a major CalTrans station links the City with the Silicon Valley.
