As Black History month ends and women’s history month begins, we want to acknowledge our honor in celebrating and placing value on the cultural diversity we have at Mosser.
As a multicultural family-owned business, we acknowledge the cultural heritage, adversities and triumphs that these kinds of celebratory months focus on—and that we honor every single day. Unlike other real estate owner operators, Mosser is a 100 percent African American and woman-owned family business with more than 85 percent of our employees self-identifying as a minority. From this background, we do business with a profound commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at the core of company culture. It sets us apart in this business. With deep community roots, we prioritize our involvement into highly diverse neighborhoods where we can improve affordable housing options for those who live there and offer new opportunities for those that want to relocate and/or operate a business there.
We call it the Mosser Magic
In the 1970s Charles Mosser invested in a full block in the Western Addition with over 117 apartments. At that time, the neighborhood was still predominantly African American with these properties run-down, but he saw the great potential to improve the environment both physically and operationally for the benefit of the residents, the neighborhood and our family. And that is exactly what he did. This was established as Fredrick Douglass Plaza in honor of the American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer and stateman. This instills a sense of pride that influences this San Francisco’s neighborhood turnaround.
Charles Mosser taught us that we had a great responsibility to lead by example and give back to the community in support of our residents—who are as diverse as they come. Not only do we have our own families living in Mosser properties, but we are also hands-on involved, active, and engaged in supporting diverse and inclusive neighborhoods.
At Mosser, we are agents for positive social and economic change and have a moral calling to create places that are safe, just, and affirming. We continue to empower everyone at Mosser to strive towards creating the world we envision for generations to come. We continue to grow our employees and leaders from within—and are proud to have people of color and women in important leadership roles including our Chief Financial Officer, Jennifer Sedgewick and Associate Vice President of Property Management Annalyn Chacon, among others.
Happy Black History Month, Happy Women’s History Month, and may all residents, employees, and friends join us as we pay respect to noteworthy trailblazers for their contributions and continue to be a proponent of diversity, equity and inclusion for all.
